U11 County Cup: 7.11.18
Well done to our U11 boys who played some great football last night. Game 1 We faced a tricky Harlescott team who defended brilliantly. Harlescott did not get out of their own half and Ollie had very little to do in goals. Unfortunately we couldn't find the back of the net after hitting the post on numerous occasions. It finished 0-0. Game 2 In this game we faced Prees. We dominated the game playing some great football and eventually scored three. Henry with three goals in this game. Game 3 We faced a good Priorslee team in the final game who had previously equalled our results. We defended well and it was a close game with few clear chances. Prioslee were awarded a controversial corner which they scored from. The boys deserved a point overall and it was unfortunate that the decision went against them. Star Player Callum McMullen was our star player for the night. Tackling, passing and general fitness levels were top level! The girls kicked off their county cup tournament in a group with Highley and Longen.
Game 1 We played Longden and dominated the early encounters but couldn’t find the goal. This eventually came and we finished comfortably, 3-1. Game 2 We played Highley who were resolute for the early parts but our passing football eventually broke them down and we won 4-0. Game 3 The decider as Longen has beaten Highley we needed to win or draw to progress to the next round. After a good start we took the lead and eventually won 2-0. Game 4 Our girls were superb throughout this game and created chance after chance. This told towards the end of the game as we won 5-0. The girls have now progressed to the next round and scored an impressive 14 goals along the way. Evie 2, Katie 1, Georgia 5, OG 1 and Eva 5. Player of the night was Poppy G. Superb in defence alongside the ever impressive Jess!! Match Report
Game 1 V Redhill Tough start for the girl’s squad with pre Tournament night favourites, Redhill, up first. The girls started briskly with Eva, Jess and Ruby bossing midfield. A good passing interchange between Eva and Jess released Georgia H into space up front, a burst of pace took her away from the Redhill defender and she smashed the ball into the Redhill net for 1-0. The girls seemed comfortable from then on with Poppy and Katie at the back dominating. With only just over a minute remaining a speculative long ball bounced towards our area, Breanna reacted and ran to clear only for the ball to ricochet off the Redhill forward. It dropped kindly for the opposition and she slid it home1-1. Evie, Eloise and Georgia L came on adding energy to a late surge, but sadly the winner eluded us. Game 2.V John Fletcher Next up were John Fletcher who we had lost to and beaten in our two qualifying games. Poppy and Katie needed to control their quicksilver striker, which supported by Eloise in the second half, they did admirably. Up front despite quarrying out some half chances foe Eva and Georgia we couldn`t score. The game finished 0-0. Game 3 V Meole Brace The key game! With Meole losing to Redhill and John Fletcher dramatically coming back from 1-0 down to beat Redhill the girls needed 1-0 win to go to a final penalty shootout, 2-0 to win the cup! What a start! The midfield trio of Jess, Ruby and Eva were everywhere and it was only a matter of time before a Meole error presented Greenfields the perfect opportunity. A sharp finish from Georgia H and we were 1-0 up. Meole heads went down and we brought on the kitchen sink to throw at Meole. Evie, Eloise came on and with the extra energy we dominated the last four minutes. With a minute to go a series of corners presented us a chance on the death. A goal mouth scramble ensued and Evie couldn`t quite force it home. Penalties! Penalty Shootout John Fletcher So for the ESFA County cup, best of three pens! John Fletcher went first and their normally reliable striker scuffed the ball to Breanna who safely gathered it up. Jess White bravely stood up to take penalty in true White family girl’s football tradition; No problem, the ball smashed high into the John Fletcher net. The opposition went second, the ball bouncing off the top of the bar to present Poppy with a match winning penalty. Poppy strode forward and with a nerveless finish, smashed the ball home. Champions!! The girls will go on to represent Shropshire in the midland regional finals day. Well done Team Greenfields! Our boys qualified for the Cup Finals night in Telford. The first game saw us play a tough Priorslee team but we eventually won 1-0. The second game saw us go one nil down early on against the County Champions Oakmeadow. We came back and scored and drew the game 1-1. Our final game saw us play St Giles. St Giles were a very strong team and the game was tied at 1-1. We needed to win to avoid a penalty shootout with Oakmeadow. Zane Beadows (in the last minute) chipped the ball over the goalkeepers head and we won the game 2-1 with the last kick of the game! Unbelievable. This meant we went to the final against Harlescott. This was a very physical game and the wind dominated! Harlescott took the lead through a cross which looked suspiciously like a handball. In the second half and the wind with us, we dominated the game. We found our equaliser through Henry's well struck shot. 1-1. The Harlescott keeper also made more good saves but we drew 1-1. The game went to penalties - luck of the draw. Unfortunately, we lost on penalties but we are so proud of all the players for their sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
A moment from today. A very good football player was a substitute for one of our games. He was told that he was coming on. He said the boys were playing well and he didn’t think we should change the team. The boys won the game and they all celebrated together! #Proud Well done to our very own James ‘Jimmy’ Anderson who won the Under 11 Best Bowler for the @BeaconCricket
For the third consecutive year we are Gold! Thank you to all the parents who have supported us with the competitions/clubs and, most importantly, a massive well done to the children! Finally, congratulations to the children who won the rounders competition today!
